The Passing of Roger L. Abel

Past Guardian President

A Visionary Community Leader

Dear Brothers and Sisters

As we all know, our Big Brother, Roger Abel, former President of the Guardians Association, passed away this last weekend. Roger has been a mentor, leader and a fighter up to his last days for equality for ALL African American members of the service as well as our communities. Mr. Abel was a ICON, amongst those in the Guardians Association and we must never forget the sacrifice that he made to make the NYPD a better place to work for all those who followed after him. My prayers and those of the Guardians Association's Membership go out to the Abel Family. This organization will stand by the family in their time of need for the lost of their loved one. The service information provide below was sent out by the department. We must send our Big Brother home with Pride. So it is imperative that there is a strong showing at the services describe below. We owe that much to DETECTIVE ROGER L. ABEL

P.S. Please pass along to others

Hey,

Just received some bad news. Mel Branker passed away last Wednesday (3/17/10). A memorial service will be held for him on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 6PM at the Mt. Vernon Heights Congregational Church at 258 So. Columbus Ave, Mt. Vernon NY 10553.

This hit me kind heavy; Mel and I would speak periodically. We always talked about getting together one more time when he got a little bit better but that time never came. Please do me a favor and see that this gets out to our correction family, especially those who knew him (he was the midnight kitchen officer in HDM). Thanks.

SEE YOU AT THE TOP!!!

FAMILY,,WE MUST MAKE TIME FOR EACH OTHER..BECAUSE WE HAVE ALL AGED..AND THE PEOPLE THAT WE WORKED WITH FOR 20 OR MORE YEARS..ARE PASSING ON..AND ONE DAY WE WILL BE GONE AS WELL..

WE CAN'T DO A THING ABOUT DEATH BECAUSE DEATH IS A PART OF LIFE..SIMPLE AS THAT..BUT WHAT WE CAN DO WHILE WE ARE ALIVE..IS ENJOY ONE ANOTHER..VISIT ONE ANOTHER..CALL ONE ANOTHER..EVEN IF YOU ARE JUST SAYING HELLO,,

GO TO THE REUNIONS.

.GO TO THE MEETINGS..

GO TO THE PICNICS..

ENJOY LIFE WITH PEOPLE WHO WAS A BIG PART OF YOUR LIFE..
