EXAMPLES OF MANY GREAT NYPD OFFICERS

On the right is NYPD Police Officer Mercer. He is also a former experienced NYC Correction Officer!   Officer Mercer earned the respect of  Correction Officers he worked with on Rikers Island.  Even the inmates called him Mr. Mercer.  He and the others in this group at

the protest know how to talk to people and respect the community.

December 7, 2006 by Ralph E. Smith:

The community has every right to speak out, but the process must be allowed to work.  What do I mean?  Last week there was a photo of a man wearing a black hat yelling inches away from a community affairs NYPD Officer.  That is not the answer.

Last week word on the street and in the papers was that the bloods are trying to get down in the crowd.  Well, others may mean well, but gangs mixing in the protest in not a good mix at all.

I believe that the Mayor and the Commissioner Kelly will make the system work.  I believe they will hold people accountable, action will be taken, and positions will be changed as a result of the investigation.  Let's see!  Now if there is no change and no account for who did what and why, then the community needs to focus on the legal actions and make the calls for change.

The Rev. Al Sharpton is right on point and the New York City Grand Council of Guardians put out a 10 point program for the community and the Mayor to work with.  Calm and accountability is the answer to get justice for the family.  December 16, 2006 is the next big rally on 5th Avenue in New York City and will be lead by Rev Al Sharpton.

The family wants justice and for the community to have peaceful protest to honor Sean Bell.  I heard the CCC "Christian Cultural Center" in Brooklyn under the leadership of Pastor A.R. Barnard is meeting with various members of law enforcement and community members to design a plan of action to address the problems of shootings in the community.  The CCC is an example of a community church on the front line taking a stand and looking for positive solutions.

All cops are not pigs, or killers.  Those who have done wrong through out the United States have to answer for their actions and policy as Rev. Al has stated must be changed.  Last week a 92 year old lady was shot to death in Alantia Georgia.  The police broke down the wrong door!  Someone must answer for that!  At the end of the day, the community where these shootings take place want answers, the right people changed and new policy.

STATEMENT BY MAYOR BLOOMBERG ON SHOOTING INCIDENT IN JAMAICA, QUEENS

"Although it is too early to draw conclusions about this morning's shootings in Jamaica, Queens, we know that the NYPD officers on the scene had reason to believe that an altercation involving a firearm was about to happen and were trying to stop it. Commissioner Kelly, Deputy Mayor Walcott, and I have been in touch with community leaders throughout the day to hear their concerns and update them on what we know, and we will keep them informed as this investigation continues."
