New York City Correction Officers' Union Looking into Prison Medical Staff's Response to Saturday Night's Death of a Correction Officer! Breaking News January 21, 2002

Norman Seabrook, President of the New York City Corrrection Officer;s Benevolent Association, said Sunday that he would be "looking into the jail medical staff's response to the medical complaints of a 38 year old New York City Correction Officer who died on duty Saturday evening.

Mr. Seabrook noted that another New York City Correction Officer, Michael Skori, died on duty approximately two years ago under circumstances that were similar to Saturday night's death of Richard Sabrino.

President Seabrook and Mayor Michael Bloomberg visited Elmhurst Hospital in Queens late Saturday night to comfort the deceased Correction Officer's relatives and friends.  One of the dead Correction Officer's sisters is a New York City Police Officer.

Officer Sabrino, a 14th-year veteran of the Correction Department, walked into the health care clinic at the George Motchan Detention Center on Rikers Island early Saturday evening, said he didn't feel well, and collapsed.  He was transported to Elmhurst, where he died at 6:20pm.

Richard Sabrino, New York City Correction Officer lived in Levittown, New York and is survived by three sisters, including the NYPD Officer, and a brother.  The cause of death was being investigated Sunday, January 20, 2002
